528 Muslim Brotherhood sentenced to death in Egypt

528 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood have been sentenced to death on Monday. Supporters of the brotherhood were charged due to the violent riots in the southern Egyptian city of Minya last August. The riot has reportedly caused the murder of a police officer. The riots took place after an interference by security forces on two large sit-ins in Cairo, where demonstrators were supporting the opposition to ousted President Mohammed Morsy.

The Ahram Online news site reported that this was the largest set of death sentences handed to defendants in the modern history of Egypt.
